The pilot, Andrew Chu, told Los Angeles television station KTLA that his training allowed him to ride semi-successfully in traffic.

"It's like a heavy blow, it's hard to explain," Chu said in the release. "We were about 4 to 5 meters in the air when the plane came to a complete stop and fell to the ground. Your training started, and you did the right thing. As long as you don't worry, you get the best results. ."

The plane, a single-engine Piper Cherokee PA-32, had an unspecified "engine problem" during the flight at Corona Municipal Airport, according to the FAA.

"The pilot reported experiencing engine failure on final descent at Corona Municipal Airport," said California Highway Patrol Captain Levi Miller, via KTLA. "(We're) very lucky today that the traffic was light, and it looks like the pilot did a good navigation that avoided any accidents."
